The Botanical Gardens in Spearfish Canyon are located within Savoy. You will find many types of trees, brush, flowers, grasses, etc.  There are 4.5 acres of land that is designated as a “garden” area.  The Botanical Gardens were created to encourage the thousands of yearly visitors of Spearfish Canyon and the local area to respect the natural environment.

Why do so many visit the Botanical Gardens in Spearfish Canyon every year?

The Little Spearfish Falls Trail is actually part of the Spearfish Canyon Botanical Gardens.  This area contains signs and information about the various species in the Black Hills.  You can take a break on the benches along this trail, as well as the trail of Roughlock Falls. It is easy to forget the beauty that nature has to offer.  There is also an information booth in the grassy area outside the parking lot of the Latchstring Restaurant because you might want to learn about the environment you are in. This can be very helpful when visiting many of the trails in Spearfish Canyon.  The whole area is incredibly beautiful!

The trails that make up the Botanical Garden within Spearfish Canyon are the Little Spearfish Falls Trail and Roughlock Falls Trail.  You will see the same vegetation and wildlife throughout all of the trails in Spearfish Canyon.  Similar trails are Community Caves, Devil’s Bathtub, Old Baldy Trail, Rim Rock Trail, Little Spearfish Trail, Iron Creek Trail, and Annie Creek Trail.  The Little Spearfish Falls Trail and Roughlock Falls Trail are both very easy hikes.  Both of these trails will take you to two of the canyon’s amazing waterfalls.  The photo opportunities are endless!
